An Americano is an espresso drink made with hot water and espresso, sometimes called a caffe Americano. It is made either with one or two shots of espresso, with varying ratios of water. A true Americano does not include milk (like a latte or macchiato). Milk can be added, but it wouldn’t be the true traditional form of the drink.
An Americano is basically just an espresso (usually a double shot) with hot water added to it. Adding the water dilutes the taste of the coffee, but also gives you a full mug – this is why it’s sometimes known as a Long Black too. However, with our handy guide on how to make an Americano, you won’t even need a coffee machine!
