Planting millions of trees

Since 2022, supported by Nestlé GRP program, NESCAFÉ® has planted 2 million trees worldwide1. We aim to plant 20 million native trees in and around coffee farms by 2026 – supporting local biodiversity and helping to capture CO22. Did you know NESCAFÉ® in Europe is supplied with green coffee coming from farm groups independently checked vs Sustainability standards? Planting these trees contributes to enhancing biodiversity, which in turn supports soil health and coffee production.

Working with farmers

Around the world, about 100,000 farmers, big and small, are part of our technical assistance field programs. In 1960, NESCAFÉ® started helping farmers adopt best farming practices in the Philippines. Today, our efforts contribute to improving farmer livelihoods around the world through improved farm productivity and efficiency. In fact, NESCAFÉ® has enabled more than 900,000 farmers trainings since 20101.

Did you know, boiling a whole kettle three times a day uses aprox. 102kWh of electricity a year? Heating water to just 80ºC could save 25kWh a year, enough to power a 50” LED TV for 340 hours3!

Sourcing coffee responsibly

NESCAFɮ is made with responsibly sourced coffee. That means our coffee is traceable to its origin's group of farms and it's grown according to international sustainability standards that are checked by credible third-party organisations1, taking into consideration social, economic and environmental indicators. As part of our journey towards sustainability, 700,000+ tonnes of green coffee were responsibly sourced in 2023 alone4. That's equal to over 84 billion cups of NESCAFɮ5!

Preventing CO2 emissions

In 20 of our NESCAFÉ® factories around the world, we now use spent coffee grounds as biofuel, saving 555,000 barrels of oil a year. This is the equivalent to 195,000 tons of carbon per year. Adding that it is 2021 data and progress are still on going6.

Saving water for comminities

NESCAFÉ® is committed to reducing water consumption. In Vietnam we proved that quality coffee can be grown using around 40% less water since 2011. This lowers costs for farmers allowing more water for local communities. Since 2011, we have introduced water saving techniques to all NESCAFÉ® Plan farmers so that they reduce the amount of water for coffee irrigation7.
