You may notice we are rolling out Health Star Ratings (HSR) on all our coffee mixes products. That’s because we are committed to supporting consumers to make informed choices as part of a balanced diet.
The new front of pack HSR rating will complement other existing, more detailed on-pack nutrition and portion information like the Nutritional Information Panel (NIP).
The Health Star Rating (HSR) is a voluntary front of pack labelling system in Australia and New Zealand that provides consumers with a quick, easy, and standard way to compare products in the same category and make healthier choices.
It was developed by the Australian, state, and territory, and New Zealand governments in collaboration with industry, public health, and consumer groups.
The star rating for each product is calculated using a specially designed calculator which was developed in consultation with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and other technical nutrition experts. FSANZ is the leading food regulatory authority in Australia and New Zealand.
The calculator assesses the nutritional profile of packaged foods in the same categories assigning them a star rating from ½ a star to 5 stars, with 5 being the most nutritious.
For coffee mixes, the calculator evaluates the amount of energy (kJ) and sugar per 100mls, when prepared with water, as per the instructions on pack.
Generally speaking, the lower the sugar and energy levels associated with the product, the more stars on pack.
